As Australia’s toughest summer of bushfires continues, everyone at RWC and Matthews Fire Alarm would like to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of all of the fire crews working to keep Australians safe.
In October, RWC had the opportunity to witness first-hand, the incredible talent and skills of our fire-fighters, as the “best-of-the-best” fire crews in Australia took part in the 2019 Australasian Firefighters Championship.
The biennial Australasian Firefighters Championship was first held in 2001 in Corowa, NSW. The competition is hosted by different communities each time, with Tamworth in NSW playing host in 2019, the 10th edition of the event.
As a proud sponsor and supporter, Paul Moody, Product Manager for Matthews Fire Alarm, and on behalf of RWC, was on hand to award the prize, a Matthews Standpipe, for the Pump Appliance and Ladder event to winning team, Moonbi-Kootingal RFS. The objective of the event was to extinguish a fire on a rooftop using two lengths of 38mm hose and hydrant water through the appliance. Competing teams had to display their skills in pump operation, ladders, hydrants, using a breeching piece, hose handling and branches.
Other events at the 2019 Australasian Firefighters Championship included; the Booster, Ladder Hose and Breeching, the Wet Hose Marshall and the Urban Pump and Suction events, just to name a few.
Speaking about the championships, Paul said; “It was an extremely tough competition and wonderful to see all the teams competing with great spirit and camaraderie. It was a pleasure to once again be involved as a sponsor of the Australasian Firefighters Championship.”
